Since getting the engine to run, the next major hurdle is getting the bronco to stop. It had brakes already, but brake lines were rusted through, wheel cylinders were shot, and I really don’t want to ride on drums and shoes that haven’t been used in 3 years. So…the bronco got new disc brakes up front, new locking hubs, new drums/shoes in the rear, and all new stainless brake lines.
The work of restoring this bronco causes me to think of the slow process God is doing to restore my soul. I save up money to invest for the next project on the bronco. Similarly God builds trust in our relationship that He can “invest” to restore my soul. Some things in my past He redeems and others He replaces, but always He is at work to make all things new.
When we first trust Christ as Savior we bring our old ways of dealing with the world into His family. My old “brakes” may have worked before I was saved, but now in the family of God I find my old “brakes” don’t get the job done.
What many of us need is a total replacement of how we deal with life. We’re trying to patch our old lines, and brush up worn out habits for dealing with the joys, trials, and heart-aches of life. This new life with JESUS requires more than our old resources can provide and we find our old ways don’t get-r-done anymore.
So bring your old life to JESUS and let HIM decide what needs replacing. How is your relationship with your wife? What about the kids? When and where do you worship? Are you referencing old manuals for life or have you begun to listen to the advice of the ONE who can restore your soul?
